Forgot to archive this from a few months back. Just a random attempt at a hand/ipad/reflection.
While on vacation a couple weeks ago I tried my hand at a more traditional painting project by trying to paint a couple scenes from where I was staying at without any tracing or color-cheating (i.e. picking colors from a photo). While the end result isn’t mind-blowing I was pretty pleased w/how they both turned out – considering I normally stick to cartoon/illustration type work.
Time Lapse Videos
The America First show is on vacation for a week and I ran out of side projects for the moment and this idea popped up.
A Photoshop idea that popped into my head recently. I know it’s a bit stale (and a tad cringy) now in 2019 as we’re all now wondering if President Trump (or similar Populist/Nationalist leaders) will succeed or not … but I had to get it out of my system. Plus however it all turns out it was a great feeling to at least have the hope for a time at the very least.
“The fundamental question of our time is whether the West has the will to survive…”
President Donald J. Trump | July 6th, 2017
Another hilarious Nick tangent/idea that I had to illustrate (Twitter post).
What’s the point of the “America First” slogan if #FreeSpeech is gone, we’ve lost control of our government and the country’s been turned into a clown world?
Last couple weeks have been pretty rough w/the increased censorship online, immigration going from emergency to nightmare, President Trump seemingly abducted or lulled to sleep by non-MAGA people in his administration and the other usual issues in the news/culture accelerating towards the cliff at break neck speed. I’m not an Alex Jones cult follower but I recognize that his voice being taken away, along with plenty of others is not a good sign at all – especially when the people being banned/deplatformed tell WAY more truth than the mainstream news outlets etc. This isn’t my usual style/approach to artwork but the idea just popped in my head and I just went with it.
God save America … if it’s still possible.

Funny thing about this is that I was 50% into this illustration when he mentioned Harvey Dent on the show. Maybe that was inevitable but I was really freaked out when he brought up an idea I had already started illustrating! Very weird!

Illustration idea that I recently finished.
I couldn’t resist throwing the illustration into a short video clip to give it a bit more feeling/context. If you watch make sure to crank the volume and go HD/full screen!
Final version at top of post but here are some earlier iterations.
Painting Time Lapse
I really do have another project I’m supposed to be working on in my free time! But the other day yet another NJFscene popped into my head and I had to attempt it. It’s not 100% what I envisioned but pretty close.
By the way here’s the song I was listening to that triggered the idea: “Guidance” by Against the Waves. Make sure to listen past the 30 second point for full effect – and for bonus points listen up to the mini guitar solo at 03:21 🙂

Finally got around to attempting a video version of how I saw the original illustration in my head – using the above-mentioned song too. Didn’t have ton of time but it got close enough I think. As always – go fullscreen/HD to watch it!
Nick’s gone for a week for a well-earned vacation. My free time was slated to go elsewhere but my brain/stylus disagreed so we now have another one for the collection …
- I left out the “rs” in Tenders!
- Image may be too dark … or not dark enough? Contrast of night time was fun but to some might be overkill. Couple examples of dark/light variations:
Clearly I’ve been on a kick w/this kind of thing lately … no doubt coming from some combination of inspiration, OCD and whatever red/white/black pills I’ve recently consumed. Anyhow, this past week Nick (who’s a Catholic) had a fair number of pagans or atheists send messages to the show and his responses, as usual, were as hilarious as they were spot on. At some point he joked about how he was “fending of the pagan hordes” and that’s the comment that I couldn’t get out of my head and led to this illustration.

Description from YouTube:
This is a silly but sincere tribute intro to Scott Adams and his always-thought-provoking Periscope series “Coffee with Scott Adams”.
Not to be over-dramatic about a 15 second animation but for anyone who cares, I made this because:
A) Scott Adams is one of a very few voices out there today who offers honest, open-minded, calm and always-unique assessments of the news of the day … and that is inspiring (even when I don’t agree with him).
B.) Because he supports President Trump because it’s the right thing for the country, not the popular thing to do.
C.) And also … I don’t know about anyone else but I’ve always wanted to hear Scott’s trademark humming overlaid on top of some jazz music… so figured I’d just do it myself! (Along with the artwork, etc.)
Disclaimer: Not an official product of Scott Adams (don’t blame him for this!)
